How to Decorate a Spring Dining Table

How to Decorate a Spring Dining TableI don’t do a lot of decorating in my home for the seasons but I do like to decorate and set the dining table! This spring I decided to use my grandmother’s china, Lily of the Valley, and mix some old and new pieces!1. First I placed the items on the table. I always “audition” several items to see what I like and what I don’t like. Not all dining items make the final cut. For example, the rattan chargers were too big and I didn’t like the green votive candle holders. spring dining table2. The burlap table runner  provides a casual look which I like. Also, I use the burlap for Christmas and fall. It looks good with everything!Tip: When shopping, select items that can be used for more that one holiday or season. You have less stuff to store!3. I like to group items on the table runner and this time I used milk glass for the main players. I just love milk glass! The large piece was my grandmother’s, the candy dish was my mother’s and the vase was found at an antique store.Tip: Look for things in your home that can be used for a vase. The candy dish and ice bucket/cookie jar have lids and most people would not think to use them as vases for flowers. Watch how they get transformed!Yellow mums in milk glass cookie jarYellow and green mums in milk glass candy dish4. I used yellow and green flowers. One or two colors will have a greater impact than several colors. I bought some floral foam at the craft store and cut it soaked it in water. Then I placed the foam in the candy dish and the cookie jar. I cut the stems and stuck each flower into the foam. You don’t have to be an expert to do this!Tip: Keep the flowers close to the container. The further the blood are from the container, the more flowers you will need to use. They may also be too tall to see your guests when sitting! Here is a bunch of alstroemeria in a milk glass vase.Alstromeria in a milk glass vase5. I added silver flatware from my friend. The silver flatware belonged to her grandmother! I borrowed glass candlesticks from another friend. I purchased white cloth napkins from Target along with the cute little salt and pepper shaker bunnies and the sheep. I also added yellow depression glass to serve as a charger for each plate and some glass stemware. There you have it! Some old things and some new things, some fresh flowers and some borrowed things all came together to create this spring dining table!Grandmother's chinaBunny salt and papper shakersPorcelain sheepSpring dining tableHappy spring and HappyEaster to all of you!
