The 8 Most Popular Kitchen Styles

The 8 Most Popular Kitchen StylesThere are currently eight kitchen styles that are popular in the United States.  Here are a few details about each one.  Which kitchen style is your favorite?1. Traditional: The traditional kitchen takes inspiration from American and English designs of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.  The cabinets are stained with cherry or mahogany.  The emphasis is symmetry and formality.  The fabric treatments are tapestry, stripes, and brocades.  Marble and granite are elements that typically are found in a traditional space.2. Contemporary: The contemporary style was created when designers, weary of the faux Victorian details of the era, emphasized a minimalist look with clean and simple architectural lines .  Contemporary kitchens incorporate organic and man-made materials.  Chrome, glass, and stone are elements that typically define a contemporary space.3. Shaker:  The shaker style is about function.  There are no frills or ornate details.  Plain cabinets with dye or natural oil are in keeping with this style.  Earthy colors of blue, red, green, and yellow are used for tiles in the backsplash.  Tin light fixtures, pewter hardware, and shutters are part of the look.4. Tuscan: This style embodies an old, Italian countryside.  Texture is key here.  Rough stucco walls, sleek ceramic backsplashes, natural stone countertops, and dark oak cabinets exemplify the Tuscan style.  Wicker baskets and brightly painted pottery complete this look.5. French Country:  This style includes limestone countertops and elegant cabinetry. A farmhouse sink adds country charm.  Linen fabrics and accent colors of red, yellow, and deep blue are typical.6. Industrial: Vintage, minimal, and utilitarian are words to describe this style.  White metro tiles with grey grout for the backsplash and walls are characteristic.  Open shelving and factory lighting complete this look.7. Global: Modern cabinets and an Asian design approach.   Granite and lava rock are seen on the countertops.  Clean-lined architectural details make this style a favorite to those who like the contemporary style with a dash of the exotic.  On the floor you’ll see bamboo or cork.8. Farmhouse:  Rustic, worn, and humble are words to describe this style.  Worn patinas, chipped wood, pine flooring, painted cabinets, and beadboard walls all fall in line with the rustic style. So which of the eight kitchen styles is your favorite?  I wish that I had more kitchens so that I could design one of each!  Subscribe to this blog so that you don’t miss a post and leave a comment;  I want to hear from you!
